AN ONLINE MASTERCLASS FROM BALANCE BEHAVIOUR:
STEP TWO: KEY CONCEPTS
MODULE 1
KEY CONCEPT: HORMONES
MOOD VS LEARNING
Learn about mood, energy and hormones as they relate to behaviour, as well as neural pathways and neuroplasticity. This module covers biofeedback, instinct vs thinking things through, and how to address balance of mood. We will discuss the difference between a functional behaviour and a habit. Research and case studies.
MODULE 2
KEY CONCEPT: DOMINANCE-SUBMISSION DYNAMIC
WHAT THIS IS IN THE REAL WORLD AND WHY UNDERSTANDING IT IS A VALUABLE TOOL.
This is a marmite module – like it or not dominance-submission dynamic is an important concept to understand. We will take a deep dive into what this all really means, how it has been interpreted in the past and the present, and what it really means to dogs. We discuss how it is relevant today.
MODULE 3
KEY CONCEPT: DIET
YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT
The diet’s role in the health and behaviour of dogs cannot be underestimated, and nor should it be. This module talks about how what the dog eats relates to how he feels and behaves. Research food, contrast and compare diets, complete a diet audit and suggest improvements. Learn how to word suggestions to clients and the legal limitations when it comes to dietary advice.
MODULE 4
KEY CONCEPT: SPEAK DOG
A RANGE OF PICTURES AND VIDEOS TO HONE YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF DOG COMMUNICATION AND HELP YOU TO INTERPRET SCENARIOS.
For this one we will watch a lot of dogs! Learn to interpret body language, mood, and intent, via video-based tasks.
MODULE 5
BEHAVIOUR TRAINING EXERCISES – BOTH SIDES OF THE COIN
A RANGE OF EXERCISES TO GET YOU THINKING ABOUT MOOD AS WELL AS BEHAVIOUR, THAT CAN BE APPLIED TO VARIOUS SCENARIOS.
Learn how the operant and classical overlap, and why this is the best approach. Revisit thinking vs instinct and how you can condition mood during training.
